Palin is now in the running for GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs
Now, you may see this title and think that I’m, well, completely insane. But the more you review this, the more it makes very awkward sense. And yes, I’m totally serious. In my opinion, the self proclaimed Maverick hockey mom from Alaska has started an awful curse on this NHL season.
First off, she’s made hockey into a running joke in the states even moreso than it was before to the average person. People who are on the fence regarding hockey will now think of her screaming hockey mom every few days during the election and really take it as a joke, but even then, not a big deal.
The actual curse on the NHL that doesn’t involve cheapening the game as much starts in Philadelphia. Known billionaire republican and CEO of the Flyers Ed Snyder had a theoretically smart logic for the party he supports - have a really dumb ‘hockey mom’ contest, and tie Palin into it. So, on October 11th, she dropped a ceremonial faceoff with the winner. Oh, and her youngest daughter Piper. Rumours tell that Sarah actually brought out Piper in hopes they wouldn’t throw stuff at her if she brought her out wearing an out of date Flyers jersey. It worked, but as you can see, she had the crap booed out of her.

I know, I know! Guess what Sarah Palin did on October 24th?
Sarah Palin got a big welcome from St. Louis Blues fans when she dropped the ceremonial first puck. And when the first on-ice fight broke out, the Republican vice presidential nominee returned the enthusiasm.
The self-described “hockey mom” got more cheers than boos on Friday night before the Blues’ 4-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Some of the 19,150 in attendance booed, but they were all but drowned out by loud cheers for the Alaska governor and running mate of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
So, now what’s happened to the Blues? Already missing their backup goaltender, Chris Mason, due to an appendectomy, starting goalie Manny Legace goes down that game. How so?
Blues goalie Manny Legace left after one period Friday night with a hip injury suffered when he slipped on the carpet placed on the ice for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
The Alaska governor dropped the ceremonial first puck before the Blues hosted the Los Angeles Kings. A narrow carpet walkway was placed from the gate at the Blues bench to center ice for Palin and members of her family.
Just before the ceremony, the former Red Wing was the first player on the ice for St. Louis. Legace said an official moved his own foot from the carpet just as Legace stepped down, causing the carpet to slide and Legace to topple.
St. Louis would also lose their AHL callup goalie Ben Bishop a few days later, and then finally get back on track….sort of. They’re 1-5-1 since the faceoff. Now, can we wrap this up? Absolutely not.
Its Thursday, and the Democrats have won. The Sharks last game was on Tuesday, during the elections, so they haven’t played since. Who do they face? The St. Louis Blues, and surely nothing can happen, can it?
San Jose Sharks goaltender Evgeni Nabokov is day-to-day with a lower body injury, the club announced Friday.
Last season’s Vezina runner-up was injured on the final play of the game as he stopped St. Louis’ Patrik Berglund on the Blues’ final shootout attempt to preserve a 5-4 win.
Its a good thing its just day to day. Imagine if that ruined the Kazakh’s career - Palin wouldn’t want to be seeing Russia from her house anymore, as all she’d be seeing is a bunch of Russians giving her the finger for ruining the career of the 2010 Olympic Team’s probable starting goalie. Again though, it didn’t happen, so all is well…until the next time (so, its it the Sharks turn to pass it on, or is it still a Blues virus).
In the end, this may be coinicidence. But am I entertaining the possiblity of curse?
You betcha.
